NUNSENSE

This “habit-forming” musical comedy is the opening event of our 2016-2017 Indoor Season!

Description

A Hail Mary of fun and frolic, Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of “Grease.” An unholy amount of comedy ensues as we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head. Featuring star turns, tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz, and comic surprises, this show has become an international phenomenon and is sure to be “habit forming!”  Directed by Michael Carrasco.  Music Direction by Brandalee B. Streeter.  Choreography by Jillian Vanderstel.

mariah_hatchMARIAH HATCH (Sister Robert Anne) Mariah has been experiencing theater since she was a kid, from being a Christmas tree in Charlie Brown Christmas to Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. She has performed all over Europe in a choir group called Arizona Ambassadors, as well as playing Nehebka in Aida, a Princess in The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and Ms. Hannigan in Annie. Not only does she love to perform, Mariah has the incredible duty to be the favorite aunt to 15 nieces and nephews.  Many thanks to the Jones family and Hatch family for supporting her and giving her the confidence to do so. She would also like to thank her sweet Husband, Jeff for helping her with lines and singing the songs with her during his busy school schedule at BYU. “I Just Want To Be A Star!”

I couldn’t do it without you.”

chelsea_lindsayCHELSEA LINDSAY (Sister Amnesia) Chelsea was born at Holy Cross Hospital, and should’ve known she’d be a woman of the cloth someday. Chelsea has been singing since she could talk and has even been caught singing scales in her sleep. Chelsea completed her Master of Music in 2015 at BYU, where she was named Best Female Singer of the Year and was invited to perform three times for the national BYU Devotional Broadcast as a featured soloist. Her performing credits include a range of characters in opera, operetta and musical theater. He favorite credits include Adina in L’Elisir D’Amore at BYU, Meg March in Little Women The Musical with Murray Arts in the Park, and Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance with the Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts. In the Metropolitan Opera National Council (MONC) auditions she was named the Utah District Winner in 2013 and Audience Favorite in 2013 and 2014.  She performed in Cancun, Mexico with Opera Maya in 2015, and was selected as the featured soloist to premiere an original Mayan work that was performed at the ruins of Chichén Itzá. Chelsea has toured and soloed with professional choirs from Israel to China. She’s thrilled to play Sister Mary Amnesia as her first role here at SCERA. A special thanks to her family and friends for helping her pursue her dreams.  “I love you guys to the moon and back!”

Shelly TruaxSHELLY STEWART TRUAX (Sister Hubert, Mistress of the Novices) Shelly has been performing for longer than she can remember. After many years as a violinist, she came upon her true passion – singing and acting. Since then some of her more notable roles have been in The Spitfire Grill as Percy, Kiss and Tell as Janet Archer, Little Women The Musical as Marmee, and The Addams Family as Morticia. Though Shelly is one of the more talented people you will ever meet, she struggles with writing bios. So she asked one of her five beautiful daughters to do it for her, and perhaps will ask one of her two sons or loving husband to write the next. She would like to say “Thanks Toria, for this great bio!” ILYJWAMH!!!
