FALL 2010

SCERA SPROUTS  
Introduce your young ones to music! Students will learn a variety of fun songs and play rhythm games, as well as practice proper breath control.  On Dec. 6th, singers will perform a Christmas program for family and friends – complete with jingle bells, Santa hats, reindeer antlers and more!

Dates: Sept. 13-Dec. 6, 2010 (no class Oct. 11)
Times: Mondays 4:15-5:00pm
Ages:  5-7
Tuition:  $150/semester (materials included)

SCERA SINGERS
A fun singing class where students learn traditional and jazzy song styles, as well as proper breath control, projection, rhythm, two-part harmony, rounds and more!  On Dec. 6th, students will perform a Christmas program for family and friends dressed in Sunday best.

Dates: Sept. 13-Dec. 6, 2010 (no class Oct. 11)
Time: Mondays 5:15-6:00pm
Ages: 8-12
Tuition:  $150/semester (materials included)

WINTER 2011

SCERA SHOW CHOIR

Students learn traditional, Disney and Broadway music – as well as breathing and warm up exercises to help your child project and sing with confidence!  Some movement choreography will be taught to enhance performances.  Singers will perform in a May 3rd mini-concert for family and friends.

Dates: Jan. 10-May 2, 2011
Time:  Mondays 4:15-5:00pm (ages 5-7)
           Mondays 5:15-6:00pm (ages 8-12)
Tuition: $150/semester

SCERA ADULT JAZZ CHOIR
Have fun and make new friends while singing your favorite jazz tunes, including standards such as Lullaby of Birdland, Route 66, Fly Me to the Moon, All of Me and more!  Practice CD’s provided.  Learn to project with proper breath control, blend and harmonize and have an opportunity to perform May 3rd at SCERA’s combined end of the semester concert (the class will vote on whether to perform or not).

Dates:  Jan. 6-April 28, 2011 (no class during Spring Break)
Time:  Thursdays 7-8pm
Cost:  $150/semester plus $10 sheet music fee
          (You get to keep the music)

Instructor:  NINA COOLEY-BATEMAN   Nina is originally from Texas, and has lived in Utah for 13 years. She attended school at Southwest Texas State University, Evergreen State College and University of Texas and received her B.A. in Music and minor in Music Theatre. She studied Classical, Jazz and Broadway styles of voice, is a private piano, flute and voice instructor and has been a school music teacher for more than 14 years. Nina has directed the SCERA Children’s Choir for the past three years,directed the children’s chorus for SCERA’s acclaimed production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (2009), and directed a youth show choir for Alpine School District through the 4H Club. Nina has performed in, directed and choreographed several musicals including “West Side Story,” “Hello Dolly,” “My Turn on Earth,” “The Devil and Daniel Webster,” “Barnum” and “Oliver,” to name a few!  For the past 12 years, she has been a member of Stonecircle, a contemporary celtic band, where she plays the flute, pennywhistles, percussion and sings.  Stonecircle performed for the SLC Winter Olympics in 2002, and has also performed at countless other venues including Abravenel Hall, Kingsbury Hall, Utah Arts Festival, Scottish Festival at Thanksgiving Point, plus several out-of-state mini tours. Nina has composed music for various private projects, one of which was featured as background music in a film shown at 1997’s Sundance Film Festival. Nina is fluent in Greek, semi-fluent in Spanish and has studied Japanese. She loves to teach music, especially to children!

TO REGISTER:  Registration for Fall 2010 will begin on Monday, August 16.  Pick up a registration form at the SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 South State, Orem, open 10am-6pm weekdays or Saturdays from 12Noon-6pm, call (801) 225-ARTS or Download & Print Fall 2010-Winter 2011 Registration Form. Bring the completed form and full payment to the main office of the SCERA Center for the Arts.  There is a $15 cancellation fee per class.
